…..like
a Bengal tiger in a body shirt waiting to pounce
Six Ft Hick have been silently honing the knives in the Rock
n’ Roll bamboo thicket… the jungle drums pound to the sound
of a thousand hips snaking…. It’s a beat you can dance to ,
it’s a dance you can beat off too... it’s carnal , it’s animal
, it’s outta your control... it’s a faux-zebra rug , a jason
rocker-recliner, a leather look lounge, satin sheets and silk
shirts … kick back, …..relax, my pretties .... you’re in the
Lap of Luxury !
THE LAP OF LUXURY ...The new long-player from the kings of the
R'n’R jungle Six Ft Hick.
Finally an album of songs about Surfers Paradise !!!!!!, well
not quite ...but nearly as sleazy... check out the finesse of
$2 G -string !!!! it’ll have you grinding your hips into
paste !!!…..
I was just cleaning it ( and it went off !!!) ... a firearm
safety, community service announcement ? I think not ! Last
Lullaby ...a 50’s Death-cult tragedy of Shakespearean proportions…
Background info: Six Ft Hick formed 5 years ago after
providing the musical soundtrack for the Corbett brothers penned,
cult death-country musical , "Country Style Livers " - a production
that sold out for 3 weeks at Metro Arts theatre in Brisbane.
After being approached to perform a stylised version of this
successful theatrical production at the Brisbane Livid Festival
as part of their performance art component, they decided to
present the more music driven aspect only for this performance.
Thus the beginning of what is now known as SIXFTHICK - a parody,
as much as a connoisseurs' version of fine low-art, "loud'n’greasy"
dance hall rock ’n roll.
This follows on five years work prior to this in Brisbane, where
the Corbett's had been involved in a mixture of performance
art and rock n roll theatrics that saw them perform not only
live music venues, but also in the Brisbane underground performance
art event Transplant, and their performance troupe Real Bullets.
Six Ft Hick have gone on to perform with many respected international
artists including The White Stripes, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion,
Reverend Horton Heat, Southern Culture on the Skids, The Supersuckers,
Rocket from the Crypt, Boss Hog, Link Wray, Andre Williams,
Phantom Surfers, Hellacopters, The 5,6,7,8’s , The Jesus Lizard
and Fugazi. With now over 20 Australian tours, Six Ft Hick have
cemented themselves as a highly-rated live act.
Festivals the band has appeared at include: Big Day Out, Meredith
Music Festival, Hootenanny, Livid Festival, The Falls Festival,
Offshore Festival, 4ZZZ Market Day and the St. Kilda Festival.
To date Six Ft Hick have released 4 recordings, including the
album "Chicken" recorded at Fortissimo studios in Melbourne
by Tony Cohen ( Birthday Party, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds)
and produced by Spencer P. Jones (The Johnnys, Beasts of Bourbon).
In June of 2001 the band were invited to write the soundtrack
for the Queensland Theatre Company’s production of "DIRT" ,
directed by Michael Gow at the Qld Performing Arts Centre.
They toured the East Coast of Australia in Oct 2001 with Japanese
artists the Zoobombs. In Feb 2002 their album Chicken was released
in Japan through Massive/Infiniti. To follow this up they undertook
a tour of Japan as guests of The Zoobombs in July 2002. Playing
10 well-received shows over a 3 week period across the length
of Japan including Osaka, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Sendai, Niigata,
